ICC Awards Announced: Sachin Tendulkar Wins the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award

Bangalore: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the seventh LG ICC Awards today in Bangalore at Grand Castle on October 6, 2010. The award ceremony featured eleven awards that over the years have honoured some of the biggest names in men’s and women’s international cricket.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar awarded the ICC Cricketer of the Year award. He wins an ICC Award for the first time in his career. Sachin also won the ICC People Choice Award.

Sachin Tendulkar has been shortlisted in four categories, including, Cricketer of the Year, ODI player of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and People’s Choice Award.

Virendra Sehwag, the India opener, wins the ICC Test player of the year award. Sehwag has been in fray for two categories, Cricketer of the Year and Test player of the Year.

India wins the ICC Test Team of the year Award, which was lead by MS Dhoni. The other members of the Test team of the year were Virendra Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara, Graeme Swann, Sachin Tendulkar, Hashim Amla, Simon Katich, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, James Anderson and Doug Bollinger.

Australia wins the ODI Team of the Year Award, which was lead by Ricky Ponting, comprising Tendulkar, Shane Watson, Michael Hussey, AB de Villiers, Paul Collingwood, Dhoni, Daniel Vettori, Stuart Broad, Bollinger and Ryan Harris.

Ab de Villiers, the South African batsman, won the ODI Player of the Year award, edging out Tendulkar.

Brendon McCullum, the New Zealand batsman, won the award for the best Twenty20 performance of the year.

Netherlands allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate won the Associate Player of the Year award. Steven Finn, the England fast bowler, won the award for Emerging Player of the Year. New Zealand won the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award.

Aleem Dar, the Pakistani umpire, has won the Umpire of the Year Award for the second time in a row.
