India World Cup 2011 Squad Announced

CHENNAI: The Indian Squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has been finalized today by the Chairman of the National Cricket Selection Committee, K Srikanth and the three other members of the committee. BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan announced the India World Cup 2011 Squad.

Out of the 30 probables players, the Selection Panel has finalized 15 Member Team India for World Cup 2011. The committee while selecting the World Cup Squad for India took every precautionary measure to ensure their first-choice players are fit for the tournament.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead the Team India at the World Cup, beginning February 19. Tamil Nadu spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Piyush Chawla were named in the squad. Munaf Patel, who helped India to a series-levelling victory over South Africa on Saturday, has found a place as the fourth seamer.

Young batsman Rohit Sharma and pacer S Sreesanth have been omitted from India’s 15-member squad. Left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha and wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel have also lost their place in the squad.

Despite of the injuries, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and quick bowler Praveen Kumar have been picked for the World Cup 2011. Selectors are confident that they will be fit in time for the tournament which starts on February 19.

In the bowling department are Harbhajan, Ashwin and Chawla, an allrounder in Yusuf Pathan besides the part-time offerings of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag. Most of the names in the squad were along expected lines.
