Karnataka Crisis: BJP Wins Trust Vote in Assembly

BJP MLAs

Bangalore: On Monday, after fierce crisis in B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka, the Govt survived the trust vote in the state Assembly after the confidence vote passed 106 to 0 in favour of the government.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa earlier expressed confidence of winning the trust vote in the state Assembly. Yeddyurappa has been visiting temples ever since rebels withdrew support to his government.

On October 6, after 16 MLAs withdrew support to the government, Governor H R Bhardwaj had asked the BJP government to prove their majority in the floor of the House till October 12.

Earlier in the morning, sixteen disqualified rebel MLAs of Karnataka stormed the Assembly. They forcibly entered the lounges of the state Assembly, after the Speaker K G Bopaiah disqualified sixteen of them, including eleven from ruling BJP.

Those BJP MLAs who were disqualified are: Balachandra Jarkiholi, Belur Gopala Krishna, Anand Asnotikar, Dr Sarvabowma Bagali, V Nagaraju, Raje Kage, Y Sampangi, Nanjundaswamy, S K Bellubbi, H S Shankara Lingegowda and Shivanagouda Naik.

Former ministers Venkataramanappa, Shivaraj Tangadagi, Goolihatti Sekhar and M P Narendraswamy and independent MLAs have also been disqualified.

The legislators accompanied by JD(S) MLAs arrived in the Assembly premises in a bus. Police officials attempt to block them, but they forced their way triggering off scenes of commotion.

On Sunday night, Speaker K G Bopaiah signed the disqualification order after firing a strong missive to Governor H R Bhardwaj contesting his directive to him not to change the configuration of the House and maintain status quo on its strength as on October 6, Assembly secretariat sources said.

In his order, Bopaiah said these 16 MLAs have been disqualified under the provision of the anti-defection law as envisaged in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
